Thanksgiving is not only a time to join together and be grateful for what is, but it is also a time to observe and reach out to those in greatest need. It is a Jewish tenant that we care for others in our community, in Israel and around the world as we work toward repairing the world, tikkun olam.
At the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, we are thankful for your commitment and support as we Move Forward Together.
Standing Against Hate
We partner with community organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee and interfaith partners, to advocate for and speak out against hate in our community through education, advocacy and community building. Through empowering the next generation of Jewish leaders and our allies, we are sure to defeat this surge of antisemitism and hate.

Serving our Community Year Round
The Jewish Federation supports local programs to ensure food security, safe housing, financial independence and appropriate support for aging with dignity.
Meet Betty
When 77-year-old Betty’s health insurance did not cover the cost of her hearing aids, she turned to the Female Benevolent Society of Philadelphia, supported by the Jewish Federation. In order to cover the cost of the essential medical devices, the Female Benevolent Society joined forces with Jewish Family and Children’s Service and Friends of Federation Housing, an organization also supported by the Jewish Federation, to split the cost.
Because of the Jewish Federation’s support for programs that aid our vulnerable populations within the community, people like Betty are able to live independently and age with dignity.
Joining the Community at the Table
We support initiatives that increase the engagement of young adults to strengthen their Jewish identity, wisdom, communal leadership and practice. The Jewish Federation-supported OneTableencourages local Jewish young adults to create their own authentic and meaningful Shabbat dinners for their peers. Equipped with resources, and Nourishment Credits for purchasing food, participants form their own Shabbat dinner traditions.
"This past year I did High Holidays for the first time since I was a child. I woke up on the first day of Yom Kippur and felt inspired to explore my family history and reconnect to my Judaism. I had no idea where to begin, but I joined some virtual events as they felt safe and lower stakes. I found my way to OneTable because I had no idea where to start when it comes to Shabbat and I’m looking for a non-judgmental Jewish community outside of a synagogue setting where I can participate in my lost Jewish heritage while still learning."

Ensuring Israel's Safety, Security and Prosperity for all Jews
We work with Israeli agencies that encourage engagement, build cultural bonds, advocate for peace and security and, provide for those in need to ensure Israel can be a Jewish homeland for all.
The Jewish Federation supports the Lone Soldier in Memory of Michael Levin’s The Army Marches on Its Stomach program which provides lone soldiers, many of whom are immigrants and those who have no family connections, the kind of support that typical Israeli soldiers receive from their families organically. In addition to free Shabbat meals through three centers located in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Beersheba, soldiers are also provided housing. The centers also host Shabbat and holiday meals to create a sense of community during a time that is traditionally spent with family.
"Friday meals are a lovely thing! I don't have to worry about cooking and sometimes I also take food for the rest of the week. I can have fun and be with friends and nice people on Friday night. It gives me energy for the rest of the week."
- Methanal, a Lone Soldier
The Jewish Federation helps create a vibrant Jewish future for our communities locally, in Israel and around the world, while addressing crises as they emerge. This work is only possible with the generosity of community members like you.
