We are horrified and appalled by the Friday, January 27 attack in Jerusalem on our Jewish brothers and sisters leaving Shabbat services. The attack killed at least seven and injured several more. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia stands in solidarity with the people of Israel and those against antisemitism and terror.
Friday, January 27 was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) welcomed renowned Holocaust Educator Adi Rabinowitz Bedein. Adi spoke to community members about the importance of storytelling, especially through art in order to keep the stories of both victims and survivors of the Holocaust alive. This was one of two JCRC programs for Holocaust Remembrance Day to teach about the dangers of hatred and discrimination that led to the Holocaust.
Our Community's Security
We’re proud to say that within the first 60 days of our partnership with the Secure Community Network (SCN), we’ve addressed 45 community security needs, including consultations, law enforcement briefings or event-related security staffing. In addition, more than 210 community members received safety training.
During the month of February, Jewish communities around the world observe Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM). Locally, there are several programs and learning opportunities hosted by Jewish Learning Venture’s Whole Community Inclusion initiative and the Jewish Special Needs/Disability Awareness Consortium of Greater Philadelphia, which includes the Jewish Federation.
In honor of Black History Month, join the JCRC and the Chester County Kehillah on February 6 for a discussion with both the director and actor of "The Mountaintop," a play that reimagines the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination.
You can also watch "The Mountaintop" at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center. Receive a $5 discount on all full-priced tickets, by using promo code (JCRC5).
We look forward to celebrating Israel's 75th Anniversary by bringing the Greater Philadelphia community together for a myriad of festivities. As we approach this significant milestone, we hope that you'll save the date for these important events and also encourage your family, friends and colleagues to participate.
