We are excited to announce that the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia recently attained a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator. The new rating is the highest possible and is issued to the Jewish Federation for demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. With more than 1.5 million American charities listed and rated, Charity Navigator aims to accentuate the work of efficient and transparent organizations, providing donors with essential information needed for greater confidence in both the charitable decisions that they make and the nonprofit sector.

Recently, Michael Balaban, President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, along with local philanthropists Lynne and Michael Markman traveled with community leaders from across the country to accompany the first flights of Ethiopian olim (immigrants) to Israel.

Federation Housing, Inc. (FHI), a partner of the Jewish Federation, is now accepting applications for its newest building, Annabel Gardens in Willow Grove, Montgomery County. The new 54 one-bedroom apartment building helps to fulfill the need for affordable senior housing in our area. This collaboration is just one of the ways that the Jewish Federation continues to support efforts to care for vulnerable populations, including aging adults in our community.

Funders for this project include a lead gift by the children of Annabel Flesher Lindy for whom the building was named. Annabel was committed to the local Jewish community, including serving many years on the Board of Jewish Federation and the Board of Federation Housing.

We are grateful to the Lindys for making it possible for 54 seniors to soon live independently and with dignity in Annabel Gardens.

Earlier this week, President and CEO Michael Balaban introduced President of Temple University, Jason Wingard, to Israel's President Isaac Herzog and selected Israeli government officials. This trip is part of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Antisemitism and University Responses that Wingard established earlier this year. The commission is co-chaired by the Jewish Federation's past Board Chair Susanna Lachs Adler and Community Engagement Committee Co-Chair Jonathan Broder.

This private meeting with President Herzog was a unique opportunity for Wingard to present the university's intention to strengthen academic partnerships with higher education institutions, engage with local alumni, and meet with civic and business leaders, while also learning about innovation in Israel.

We welcome CEO Shuli Karkowsky to Moving Traditions and Executive Director Rabbi Megan Goldmarche to Tribe 12! Both agencies are supported by the Jewish Federation.

Most recently the Executive Vice President of Hazon, Shuli’s background in the Jewish community also includes leadership at UJA-Federation of New York and 70 Faces Media. Prior to joining Tribe 12, Rabbi Megan served as Senior Base Rabbi at Metro Chicago Hillel, where she spent six years leading and building the thriving Base network for Jews in their 20s and 30s. The Jewish Federation looks forward to working with both of them.

Cemetery Cleanup

June 26, 2022 | 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Har Nebo Cemetery

Honor those at rest by joining your community for a cemetery cleanup at Har Nebo, a local historic Jewish cemetery. Volunteer tasks will include raking, picking up trash and clipping overgrown vines. The cleanup will end with a memorial service to honor all of those buried at the cemetery.
